From librarianship to knowledge and information science: The historiography and backgrounds of formation of the field name in Iran

Purpose: The main aim of this paper is to show how the field name changed from “library and information sciences” to “knowledge and information science”. Methodology: The analytical-historical method was used in this research. The statistical population of this study includes the effects, events, efforts and actions undertaken to change the name of the library branch from the beginning. For this purpose, at first phase the names of the discipline were studied and classified according to the curriculum since the year 1965. Then the intellectual foundations and dominant approaches in the formation of the field title were identified and explained. Also, a set of actions and efforts made before the change in the field title on October 23rd, 2012 were identified and the role of each was determined. Finally, chronology and history of two terms of “information science” and “knowledge studies” were visualized based on its presence in the scientific titles and events. Results: The results of this study showed that the approved curricula and educational programs since the beginning have been based on three periods of time with three distinct titles: "Librarianship", "Library and Information Science", and "Knowledge and Information Science" which their main focus were respectively "cataloging and classification training", "Development of library and information services", and "IT training". Other results of this study showed that in the formation of the new title for the field, the three dominant approaches of "knowledge studies", "information science", and "mixed titles" had played some role in which the leader of the first approach was Houshang Ebrami, the leader of the second one was Abbas Horri, and the third approach lacked of any leader due to the diversity of thinking and lack of focus on a title. Conclusion: The results of the research showed that the new title is in fact the modified form of the old title. Additionally, the works mentioned in this article will be a proper bibliography for future research.

Purpose: This research aimed to investigate the effect of Derek de Solla Price award reception on research performance of medalists through comparing their scientific achievements over a period of eleven years (five years before and after receiving the award).
Methodology: This applied and descriptive study was conducted using scientometric indicators. The population of the study was comprised of all scholarly output of 25 Price medalists indexed in Web of Science database by the end of 2016. Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports were utilized for data collection. Moreover, a series of paired sample T-tests an Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used for comparing the scientific performance of medalists in pre and post-award periods.
Results: Results of the study revealed that the research performance of medalists in four out of the five indicators, namely number of publications, number of citations, quality of journals in which their articles have been published and the number of research collaborators, improved after prize reception, but not in a statistically significant level. Moreover, the tendency of prize winners to international research collaboration has been notably increased upon prize reception.
Conclusion: The reception of Price award in Informetrics had no statistically significant effect on the medalists’ publication, citation and research collaboration patterns. In other words, Price laureates did not change their research behavior following prize reception.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the impact of social-cognitive factors on knowledge sharing behavior among the faculty members of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.
Methodology: This was an applied research conducted through a survey method. The research population included all faculty members of Ferdowsi university of Mashhad among whom 250 members were selected through simple random sampling. Four questionnaires including “knowledge sharing behavior questionnaire”, “trust questionnaire”, “shared perspective questionnaire”, and “tie strength questionnaire” were used for data collection which their validity and reliability were confirmed. The collected data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling using LISREL software.
Findings: The results showed that the status of knowledge sharing behavior and social-cognitive factors were not desirable at the university. Among the dimensions of knowledge sharing behavior “willingness to use knowledge” had the highest and “willingness to share knowledge” the lowest average. Also in social-cognitive factors “shared perspective” had the highest and “trust” the lowest average. Also the results of Structural Equation Modeling showed that the model of research had a good fitness. Moreover, findings showed that “trust”, “shared perspective”, and “tie strength” had positive and meaningful effect on knowledge sharing behavior.
Conclusion: knowledge sharing behavior is a social behavior that is influenced by social-cognitive factors than the other factors. Therefore, these factors should be considered in order to examine the behavior of knowledge sharing and its improvement in organizations. Trust, tie strength, and shared perspective are among the most important of these factors.

Purpose: This study was conducted to examin the physical and mental quality of librarians’ life in Western Azerbaijan public libraries.
Methodology: The study population consisted of all librarians working in West Azerbaijan public libraries at the time of the distribution of questionnaires and felt free to complete the questionnaire. Due to the small size of the study population, all the libraians were considered as the sample of the study. Out of 158 librarians, 127 volunteers participated in this survey to complete the questionnaire. The data collection tool was Ware & Sherbourne Questionnaire Short Form (SF36) which was analyzed by SPSS 18.0 software. Its reliability using Cronbach's alpha was 0.83.
Findings: The results showed that physical activity and physical role played by librarians in public libraries of West Azarbaijan were higher and their mental health was lower than moderate level. The life quality of librarians in public libraries was fairly desirable in all cities of the province. Librarians quality of life in multi-ethnic- cities was higher than single-ethnic- ones and in kurdish area was higher than turkish ones. There was a significant relationship between librarians’ work experience and their quality of life. There was no significant relationship between their gender and field of study and their quality of life.
Conclusions: Awareness of the physical and mental health of librarians and planning to improve their health would contribute to improving the quality of library services. The role of ethnic differences in the health status of librarians has been studied in this study.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the effects of organizational justice on organizational health with an emphasis on the mediating role of social capital.
Methodology: This was an applied research conducted through correlational method. The statistical population included all 207 employees of libraries in Yazd province whom 126 of them were selected based on the Cochran formula and using cluster sampling method.The data were collected through a 20-item questionnaire on organizational justice (Niehoff and Moorman, 1993), the 24-item social capital questionnaire (Nahapiet and Gvrshal, 1998) and the 44-item questionnaire of organizational health (Hoy et al,1996). The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling by Smart-PLS2 software.
Findings: The results of this study showed that organizational justice and its components had a significant impact on organizational health, and the components of interactional justice had the highest impact on organizational health with the effect of 0.538. Also, organizational justice had a significant impact on social capital and, on the other hand, the role of social capital on organizational health was also confirmed. Among the components of social capital, the cognitive dimension with the coefficient of 0.556 had the greatest impact and explained the most changes in organizational health construct. In addition, the mediating role of social capital was positive and significant.
Conclusion: Increasing justice in the public libraries of Yazd province is a way to help the organization to enjoy the benefits of justice and also to create an environment in which greater trust and interactions and social capital increase. So the greater the trust and interaction among individuals, the health of the organization also increases.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to measure the personality charateristics of entrepreneurship among students of Knowledge and Information Science (KIS) of Shahid Chamran University of Ahwaz and to review the most important strategies for developing these charateristics from the viewpoint of students in this field.
Methodology: This was an applied study conducted through a survey method with a descriptive-analytical approach. The study population included all 133 KIS students of Shahid Chamran University whom the questionnaires were distributed among them and finally 109 questionnaires (95.81%) were collected.
Findings: Research findings showed that among entrepreneurial personality characteristics of students of Shahid Chamran University, “internal locus of control” (22.92) had the highest and “tolerance for ambiguity” (19.64) the lowest mean. The results also showed that the most important strategies for the development of these features were respectively: “utility solutions”, “training”, “advocacy and research”, and “technological solutions”.
Conclusion: Entrepreneurial personality characteristics of KIS Students of Shahid Chamran University were desirable except in “independence” and “ambiguity tolerance”.
