These books hold a special significance in the book market due to their lower prices and the ability to access rare or out-of-print editions. Furthermore, second-hand books are recognized as a part of the sustainable consumption culture, which can help preserve natural resources and reduce excessive consumption. The aim of this study is to identify the role and significance of second-hand books in society and to analyze their cultural and environmental impacts, considering that the use of these books can also facilitate social interactions and universal access to reading resources. Methodology: This study is applied in nature and adopts a qualitative approach. The needed data were collected through semi-structured interviews with two groups: environmental experts and professionals active in publishing and bookstores. Participants were selected using purposive sampling based on their relevant experience and knowledge. Data analysis was conducted using MAXQDA software and the thematic analysis method, with coding steps including open coding, extraction, and review of main and sub-themes. The findings were also visualized as conceptual maps using Visio 2020. The credibility and trustworthiness of the data were ensured through participant review, constant comparison, and verification by other researchers. Findings: The findings indicate that the use of second-hand books has tangible environmental and cultural impacts. In the environmental dimension, reductions in natural resource consumption and paper production, improvements in recycling and reuse, and the complementary role of electronic books were highlighted. In the cultural dimension, the use of second-hand books facilitates cultural infrastructure, strengthens mutual trust in the exchange cycle, and emphasizes the importance of copyright. These results, derived from qualitative data analysis and the extraction of main and sub-themes, suggest that second-hand books, in addition to economic savings, can serve as a catalyst for cultural and environmental development. Conclusion: The research results indicate that second-hand books play an important role in preserving and transmitting cultural heritage. They are regarded as valuable resources for accessing knowledge and classic works and can effectively reduce educational and cultural costs. Additionally, the use of second-hand books contributes to reducing paper production and natural resource consumption, which has positive environmental impacts. Moreover, by promoting the culture of sustainable consumption and reuse, these books can serve as effective tools in advancing green information literacy and raising awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources. مقدمه: کتاب‌های دست دوم به آثاری اطلاق می‌شوند که پیش‌تر توسط یک یا چند فرد استفاده شده‌اند. این کتاب‌ها به دلیل قیمت پایین‌تر و امکان دسترسی به نسخه‌های نایاب یا خارج از چاپ، اهمیت ویژه‌ای در بازار کتاب دارند. علاوه بر این، کتاب‌های دست دوم به عنوان بخشی از فرهنگ مصرف پایدار شناخته می‌شوند که می‌توانند به حفظ منابع طبیعی و کاهش مصرف بی‌رویه کمک کنند. هدف: هدف از این پژوهش شناسایی نقش و اهمیت کتاب‌های دست‌ دوم در جامعه و تحلیل تأثیرات فرهنگی و محیط زیستی آن‌هاست؛ با توجه به این که استفاده از این کتاب‌ها می‌تواند تعاملات اجتماعی و دسترسی همگانی به منابع مطالعه را نیز تسهیل کند. روش پژوهش: این مطالعه از نوع کاربردی و با رویکرد کیفی انجام شد. داده‌ها از طریق مصاحبه نیمه‌ساختاریافته با دو گروه شامل متخصصان محیط زیست و فعالان حوزه نشر و کتاب‌فروشی‌ها جمع‌آوری گردید که انتخاب آن‌ها با نمونه‌گیری هدفمند و بر اساس تجربه و آگاهی مرتبط صورت گرفت. برای تحلیل داده‌ها از نرم‌افزار MAXQDA و روش تحلیل مضمون استفاده شد و مراحل کدگذاری شامل: کدگذاری باز، استخراج و بازبینی مضامین اصلی و فرعی بود. همچنین، نتایج با Visio 2020 به نقشه‌های مفهومی تبدیل شدند. اعتبار و قابلیت اعتماد داده‌ها با بازبینی مشارکت‌کنندگان، مقایسه مستمر داده‌ها و بازبینی توسط پژوهشگران دیگر تضمین شد. یافته‌ها: یافته‌ها نشان می‌دهند که استفاده از کتاب‌های دست‌ دوم اثرات ملموس محیط‌ زیستی و فرهنگی دارد. در بعد محیط‌ زیستی، کاهش مصرف منابع طبیعی و تولید کاغذ، بهبود بازیافت و بازاستفاده و نقش مکمل کتاب‌های الکترونیکی برجسته شد. در بعد فرهنگی، استفاده از کتاب‌های دست ‌دوم، بسترسازی فرهنگی، تقویت اعتماد متقابل در چرخه مبادله و برجسته‌کردن اهمیت حق مؤلف را تسهیل می‌کند. این نتایج از تحلیل کیفی داده‌ها و استخراج مضامین اصلی و فرعی حاصل شده است و نشان می‌دهد که کتاب‌های دست ‌دوم علاوه بر صرفه‌جویی اقتصادی، می‌توانند محرکی برای توسعه فرهنگی و محیط‌ زیستی باشند. نتیجه‌گیری: نتایج پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که کتاب‌های دست دوم نقش مهمی در حفظ و انتقال میراث فرهنگی ایفا می‌کنند. آن‌ها به عنوان منابعی ارزشمند برای دسترسی به دانش و آثار کلاسیک تلقی می‌شوند و می‌توانند در کاهش هزینه‌های آموزشی و فرهنگی مؤثر باشند. همچنین، استفاده از کتاب‌های دست دوم به کاهش تولید کاغذ و مصرف منابع طبیعی کمک کرده و تأثیرات مثبتی بر محیط زیست دارد. علاوه بر این، این کتاب‌ها با ترویج فرهنگ مصرف پایدار و بازاستفاده، می‌توانند به عنوان ابزارهایی مؤثر در ترویج سواد اطلاعاتی سبز و آگاهی‌رسانی درباره اهمیت حفاظت از منابع طبیعی عمل کنند.
